Health Tips For Buying Golf Shoes
As someone who really likes to write about health, I was challenged recently when a friend asked me how I would pick a pair of golf shoes that were most beneficial to my health.
I hadn’t thought much about it but a little research shows that it is an issue worth investigating.
According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 43 million Americans per year suffer from foot-related health issues, costing $3.5 billion in treatment and lost workdays.
The average golfer will spend 4 - 6 hours on the golf course each time he or she plays, walking on typically hilly terrain. Adequate foot comfort during this time is a must as there is a lot of potential here for feet, ankles and back to become strained due to ill-fitting shoes, particularly in older players.
Ultimately, safe and protective footwear will reflect on your game too. Experts have stated that the game of golf begins from the feet. According to Jack Nicklaus: “All timing, distance, and direction comes out of the lower body with the feet leading the way”.
Choosing golf shoes has become harder over time. 15 years ago we were restricted mainly to “traditional” models (brogues or similar). Nowadays there are all sorts of variations, from boots to sandals.
How do you know which golf shoe will be right for you, and also best for you feet, your back as well as your swing?
Here are some tips for getting the healthiest golf shoes for you:
Take your time when trying potential new golf shoes on. Allow yourself time to walk around in the pro store. Don’t be embarrassed to spend 5 minutes or more feeling the fit of a pair of shoes.
Some people advise that you come to shop following a 20 minute walk when your feet are fully expanded. Certainly, it is better to shop in the afternoon, than in the morning, for this reason.
When trying shoes, wear the same thickness of sock that you would on a golf course. Failure to do this could result in shoes that tighter or looser than normal, which could cause blisters or sore feet.
Try on both shoes, wearing golf socks. Lace fully and walk about to assess comfort.
If you’ve had ankle problems you might want to try one of the new high-top models that give more ankle support. However, bear in mind that you need to be able to swing out and around your shoes, at the ankle. So you need to ensure that such shoes won’t impede your movement.
Do you have one foot markedly larger than the other? You could investigate a range of shoes by High-Tec created to address this. With these models, you can adapt the fit of each shoe to suit the shape of each foot.
Do you wear orthoses in your regular shoes? Then remember to transfer them to your golf shoes if your podiatrist has recommended this.
Finally, if a round of golf leaves you with painful feet, first assess the fit of your shoes. Consider changing to more supportive, stable footwear. If the pain persists and does so for more than 3 consecutive rounds, consider visiting a podiatric sports physician.
The right golf shoe should let you stay comfortable through your round and help you concentrate on your game. If you can go through several rounds without noticing your feet, the shoes are doing their job.

Public Golf Courses - Making The Right Choice
Chances are, if you’re just starting out, you haven’t decided to apply to a fancy country club yet so you can play their outstanding course, right? That’s a very good idea, because there are probably several public golf courses close to you that are just as terrific and much cheaper too! Do you think Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson started out on private courses? I doubt it! Even though we can’t all have the status of a Woods or Mickelson, we can make sure that we don’t have an argument with our wallet every time we want to hit the course for some practice time on the driving range or to get in a leisurely round.
Of course, the first thing you want to check at a public golf course is the course itself. Find out how many holes it has - some courses only have 9 and, to play a full 18 holes of golf, you just go around twice. Walk a few holes and take a look at the course. Check to see whether it appears well maintained. Are the greens plush and even? Is the rough bearable? Does it look like they regularly mend divot holes? There’s nothing more discouraging for a novice golfer than playing a course that ends up being too tough just because of poor maintenance. While poorly maintained courses can provide lots of entertainment value - you know you look funny when you’re swinging away in a bunker - they don’t provide as much “good” experience for a novice golfer as a well cared for course will.
That brings up another thing to check, the cost of a round. You’ll find some big differences in cost from course to course, and many public golf courses offer reduced rates at certain times of the day and during the off-season. For example, public golf courses in Phoenix, Arizona, known as the City of Golf, sometimes discount their rates by as much as 50 percent during the hot summer months.
Next, some extras can be really helpful to your game! Most beginners spend far too much time on the practice putting green and not nearly enough time on the driving range. Make sure the course you pick has an adequate driving range. It doesn’t matter if you can putt like a pro if it takes you six strokes to get onto the green at a par 3 hole. Along with the driving range and practice green, you might find a public golf course that has a chipping green or a practice bunker. These can all be great features to help you improve particular problem areas in your game. And that’s what it’s all about.
Finally, check out the clubhouse. No, I don’t mean discover whether the bartender is handsome or the waitress is cute. Learn whether the course has a pro shop, and whether a golf pro runs it. Ask about his or her qualifications - most of us think of the words “golf pro” and immediately think PGA, but not all golf pros are registered with the PGA. For that matter, not all golf pros are particularly well qualified for teaching. Ask if lessons are offered or if a golf school is associated with the course. This can be a big selling point if you’re trying to improve your golf swing and just can’t figure out what’s wrong. And of course, find out the cost of the lessons.
The secret to finding a good public golf course is to shop around. Check out several courses in your area and don’t worry about whether they are listed in some Who’s Who of public courses. Just do your homework and pick the one that best suits your own needs. It will make for a much more enjoyable experience and might even lower your score!
And remember - a bad choice can get you the same results as Hank Aaron, the world-renowned baseball player who once said, “It took me 17 years to get 3,000 hits, but I did it in one afternoon on the golf course!”
Copyright 2005 - Donald Saunders
If you’re relatively new to the world of golf then choosing a suitable golf course can be a daunting task. So, after you’ve picked up your discount golf equipment take a look at the public golf courses in your area.
Financial Planners Provide Monetary Advice
Financial planners are people who principally give you advice on how to optimize and understand your financial and monetary ideas. Skilled and competent financial planers are even able to make their clients have the necessary knowledge on various products and services which can assist in achieving financial goals. The types of financial products are being personally determined by the client and the financial adviser will then do the task of promoting that certain product. A financial planner needs to have the essential and fundamental prerequisites required to be able to be considered as an excellent financial adviser. For instance the RG146, in the form a diploma of financial planning, is a must and required certificate necessitated by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission in order to work as a financial adviser.
The course is offered by a variety of registered educational sources in Australia. This 8-day course is carried out inside a classroom but for your convenience, you can also do it online which offers you the flexibility to finish the course at your own speed. After the course, you are then assessed by an evaluator and will be determined if you are capable to advise and aid a client regarding financial matters. The RG146 Diploma of Financial Planning is then given to you after completing and passing the assessments.

Improve Your Golf Swing “Quickly!” I’ll Give You One Guess!”
Here’s a fast…easy…”no-brainer” way to improve your golf swing…add a quick 10-20 yards with every club…and the best part…you can do it in your home…in less than 30 minutes.
I have been approached by thousands of golfers via the net and on the golf course…with the same question…in frustration…”what can I do to improve my golf swing?”
I’ve heard all about the dozens of lessons they’ve taken and the thousands of dollars they’ve spent on equipment…all to play the “same”…and NOT improve their golf swing.
Why do you think this is?
I can tell you why in less than one sentence.
IT’S YOUR BODY!
Grab a cup of your favorite beverage (mines good ‘ol java)…sit in your most comfortable chair…and hear me out.
To hit a golf ball…what takes place? Let’s briefly go over it. Now stay with me on this…it’s going to make sense in a minute.
Get ready for that “ah-ha” moment.
Here goes:
* You physically grab the club with your hands.
* You physically bend over and get in your address position.
* You physically take the club back, hoping for a full backswing.
* You physically attempt to return the club back to impact with stored energy.
* You physically try to stay in your golf posture until the end of your swing.
O.K., that’s enough.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
Why is this important to know, and how you can use it to quickly improve your golf swing?
The answer is simple: Because of all these common references given above are the result of your body’s ability to accomplish these golf swing movements, with proper swing mechanics.
If you have “physical” restrictions (which the average golfer…especially as we age…has many) that won’t allow you to perform these optimal golf swing mechanics, you have a minimal (if not “any”) chance to optimize your golf potential.
That’s the bad news!
The good news is you don’t have to settle.. you have the control to fix your faults..that is…if you “know” what they are.
Here’s what I mean.
For starters…if you have a restriction in your hamstring flexibility, you won’t be able to get into proper golf posture…and for sure…not maintain it for 18 holes.
The result is many mishits because of fatigue and your body’s fear of pain. At the end of the round, you end up with a sore back..and wonder if you should cancel that next round of golf.
Here’s another one.
If your legs are weak…you will have no stability in your golf swing. Your legs will be moving (sliding) side to side…and straightening, when they should stay flexed.
The result again is…inconsistency…lack of power…and a predisposition to chronic injuries, due to compensations your body will make…keeping you “off the course” for long periods of time.
This is why I am a golf fitness professional.
I have passion for the game…and a goal to educate as many golfers as humanly possible…to stop the frustration.

The Vikings Are Setting Up Their Fans to Be Disappointed
The Minnesota Vikings won their fifth straight game beating the hapless Detroit Lions on the road this past Sunday. The Viking’s defense had a good game and their offense seemed to be working well together. Brad Johnson had a productive afternoon and looked comfortable at the helm.
I was really pleased with wide receiver Koren Robinson who looked really good. Robinson scored an eighty yard touchdown on the first offensive series of the game.
I still have concerns about the Vikings performance. So what is my problem?
I’m concerned that the media are full of hype in their praise of the Vikings and their newly found admiration of Mike Tice.
The Vikings have beaten sub-par teams during their winning streak. They had wins against New York (Giants), Detroit (twice), Green Bay, and Cleveland who have a combined record of twenty wins and thirty losses.
I’m concerned that we’re all giving the Vikings too much credit. I think we may be setting up this team and their fans for the fall.
Lets say that the Vikings make the playoffs and we have to face a good team. I think they will not be prepared and will have inflated expectations setting themselves up to be blown away by their competition.
I know a win is a win but the Vikings are not playing competitive teams and in a couple of the victories in their winning streak they looked awful.
The Detroit Lions are a team in turmoil. They fired coach Dave Mariucci prior to Sunday’s game. They’ve also had problems in consistency with their quarterbacks all year.
This is a game that would have made the Vikings look inept had they lost.
I believe that Vikings owner Zygi Wilf will now allow Mike Tice to hold onto his position as head coach.
I think that it would be a mistake to keep Tice as head coach. I think there will be some good coaches available in 2006 and the Vikings should take advantage of the talent pool that will be available to them.
I need to address one more issue before I sign off. Now that the Vikings are on a winning streak, the media have put their pencils behind their ears and have forgotten about Cruisegate.
I’m still sickened by that horrible affair and I want the players who took part to be disciplined.
I don’t think that the Vikings fans should receive justice for the alleged acts created by some Vikings players.
I’m sickened that the media will only report on those horrible acts when a team is losing but forget about those acts when a team is winning games.
Horrible acts need to be dealt with in good and bad times. Vikings fans must demand that they receive answers to what happened during Cruisegate.

Zimmer Durom Cup Lawsuits Not Superb for Hip Replacement Patients
Alot of people who received zimmer hip prosthesis used in their hip replacement surgical operations are witnessing that there are negative ramifications that far exceed the natural expectations for recovery. These people are experiencing a lot of additive pain sensation for longer time periods, looking forward to revision surgical operations and elevated medical expenses, and losing revenue by not physically being able to work at their official businesses. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their hip replacement implant in no way imperfect and have basically denied blame for the faulty surgical procedures, numerous patients are filing cases against them and encountering settlements.
During the month of October, 2008 Zimmer declared that it had set-aside $47.5 million to pay for claims they had received. Many MD’s are not so sure that the zimmer hip implant is good to go and without problems. In Point Of Fact, when Zimmer offered up on-line coaching to MD’s in order to instruct them what was supposedly more precise methods for executing the implant surgical procedure, roughly 50% of the doctors declined to participate. Therefore, the entire situation proceeds to be nerve-wracking for everyone attached, but none more than the hundreds of people who are facing revision surgical procedure because of the issues with their implant experiencing failures.
These miserable individuals definitely merit some aid and restitution which unquestionably is why product liability lawyers are telling them to file a lawsuit. defective hip implants has been paying out of court for some of these claims. Nonetheless, even if the payoff they are being offered seems like a fair amount, in most cases poor people are settling too fast and without allowance being made for on-going issues if they return. Without waiting to find out what an actual case is worth, people may find themselves ending up paying alot more money out of pocket when further issues or pain return.
Anyone who realizes they may have a claim against Zimmer needs to start checking into it. If you believe you could qualify, you can visit a lawyer to be certain. Try to find a lawfirm that operates nationally and centers their attention on litigation against faulty medical devices. This law firm has done the extra work and setup a special division to uncover the details and process claims against Zimmer and obtain nice sized settlements for their clients.
If your orthopedic surgeon informs you that you will need to undergo a revision surgical operation to repair your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, contact an attorney as soon as humanly possible.
Health and Safety Lawyers Recommend that Firms Upgrade to New 999 Systems
A Scottish company has recently released a new product, which will help emergency services reach their exact destination by supplying accurate information about the location of the caller. This Enhanced 999 calling solution may face an unexpected boom in demand due to the health and safety lawyers urging the firms to ensure their staff’s safety through the use of the latest available technology.
The present set-up provides emergency service providers with insufficient data, delaying necessary assistance in case of injuries. The caller’s location cannot be pinpointed, and paramedics often get only a generic number, which in the case of a large office block with many buildings makes locating the caller even more difficult.
The new system can store the caller’s details, right down to their exact location in a large building. It reroutes the call while providing an attached reference number and the exact location of the workstation from which the call is originating.
Specialist health and safety lawyer Claire Anderson stressed that workers’ safety is the responsibility of the employers. She spoke to The Scotsman about the new technology available and stated that companies would be obligated to make use of it. If they fail to implement changes, the HSE may view this as carelessness on their part and decide to prosecute them.
Employers need to keep themselves up to date with health and safety developments to avoid potential legal action from employers by taking a health and safety courses such as the nebosh training courses available from Workplace Law Training.
Analogous systems are now widely being used in the United States, where firms implement these products for ensuring staff safety and avoiding legal tangles. In many states in the US, the law requires the companies to provide their injured workers immediate access to emergency services. In a few states, the companies can be closed down if they are negligent in these matters.

Choose Good Cheap Printer Cartridges for the Printing of Custom Images
Good quality cheap printer cartridges are essential for clear and perfect images. A wide variety of printer ink toners and inkjet printer inks are available in the market to cater to for everyone’s needs. The quality and reliability of printer ink is very important for the efficient functioning of any type of printer and for ensuring perfect image quality. Although a huge variety of printer ink toner and inkjet printer ink are available across a wide price range, some still suggest the use of toners and cartridges recommended or manufactured by the printer manufacturers themselves for best results.
Types Of Printer Ink Toner And Inkjet Printer Ink
Printer users have the option of using manufactured by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or cheaper non-branded alternatives. Until a couple of years ago, inkjet printer manufacturers used to sell their printers at a marginal profit while selling the ink cartridges for these printers at high prices. But then alternatives emerged in the form of cheaper cartridges. These non-branded inkjet printer ink cartridges are much cheaper than the ones offered by the OEMs and are therefore used extensively.
How Good Are Third Party Printer Supplies?
research and other costs that have gone into the development of the ink as the reason for their ink cartridges being expensive. Printer ink manufacturers say that their production methods are unique and cannot be copied by anyone to produce the same quality of products. However, actual usage has shown that many third party products can sometimesbe as good as OEM printer supplies.
Best Print Cartridges For Photos And Text Material
OEMs say that perfect images are only possible with a combination of printer and ink manufactured by the same company. However, this is no longer the case. Now everyone can experience the same level of print quality as those who use branded inkjet cartridges.

Gun Magazine Articles: Industry Advertisements?
I have been reading gun magazines off and on for 20 years and have come to the conclusion that gun articles are just thinly veiled advertisements for the industry. At one point, I subscribed to seven monthly gun magazines at the same time for 6 years. It was during this six year period, I began to notice some interesting problems in the gun articles I read and I would like to get on my soap box and get them off my chest.
I subscribed to and read gun magazines because I am very interested in handguns and rifles and have owned and traded many over a twenty year period. I subscribed to and read the gun magazines to gain knowledge, and look to experts with more experience then me for advice or recommendations. Now the writers’ in the gun magazines and the gun magazines themselves try to give the impression that they do product evaluations of guns and other related accessories. Some even say they are writing the article specifically to test the gun or ammunition for the readers benefit.
Now back in college, when you said you were going to do a test and evaluation, that required certain protocols to ensure that the results were not spurious, but were valid and repeatable. Now, the only way to give results with any validity is proper “research design”. Unless the testing process provides barriers against any unknown variables, tester bias and maintains consistent methods, the entire procedure and results are useless. Good research design is not that hard and can be done with just a little planning. Unfortunately the gun writers often stumble on the first step.
For example, gun writers often begin a test and evaluation article by saying that a particular gun was mailed to them for testing by the manufacturer so they grabbed what ever ammunition was available or called an ammunition manufacturer for some more free ammunition. If you think about this for a minute you will realize immediately that there is already inconsistency in the ammunition tested, and a potential conflict of interest in the results. Ammunition is a key factor in how in how a gun performs.
A 230 grain .45 caliber cartridge from Winchester is not the same as a 230 grain .45 caliber cartridge from Golden Saber. A given cartridge consists of several parts such as the bullet, powder, brass case and primer. A change in any one component can drastically affect the accuracy and performance of the bullet. Additionally, if the gun writer calls up an ammunition company and requests free ammunition, there is a conflict of interest here. Can I trust the gun writer to give me an honest evaluation of the cartridges performance? If he gives a bad review, does the company stop sending him free ammunition? Would you give free stuff to some one who gave you a bad review a year ago?
Moreover, if you test Gun A with a 5 different brands of bullets of various weights and types and then compare it to a test of Gun B with different brands of ammunition of different weights and types, is the comparison valid? I often find it amusing that they give an impression of trying to be serious and precise when the basis research design testing procedure is so flawed, the results are not valid.
The gun articles also tend to just be predominately puff pieces instead of concise and complete reviews of the product. I frequently try and guess in what paragraph the writer will actually begin to directly talk about the product or what the thesis of the article is. In a small minority of writers, I may find the actual beginning of the article in the second or third paragraph, but for the majority of gun writers I find the actual article starts in the 10th or more paragraph. The first ten paragraphs were personal opinion on life, the shooting publics’ perceptions of hand guns or some Walter Mitty dream of being in a dangerous spot where you can count on the product that is the subject of the article.
Next time you read a gun article read it from the point of view of a good editor. Does the writer tell me what the object of the article is in the first paragraph, and formulate a position or opinion? How much actual relevant information directly related to the product is in the article versus fluff and filler about other topics. If you hi-light in yellow the facts and key points of the article you will be surprised how much filler there is and how much text you could delete and make the article shorter and better.
I have even read some articles where the author even states that they just received the gun and were excited to test the gun immediately. So they grabbed what ever ammunition was available and went to the range. Some even say they didn’t have a certain brand or the type they preferred at home so they could not test the gun with that ammunition.
At this point you have to laugh. When I read statements like this I find myself saying to the article ” Then go buy some!” or “Delay the test until the desired ammunition can be obtained”. Duh!
Then when the writers gets to the range they all test fire the guns differently. Even writers for the same magazine do not have similar testing protocols. They test at different temperatures, benches, and gun rests. Some will test with Ransom Rests and some do not. The best laughs I get are from the writers who refer to themselves as old geezers with bad eye sight. After acknowledging their bad eyesight, they then proceed to shoot the gun for accuracy and give an opinion on how well the gun shot!
Now, I do not know about you, but if I was a gun manufacturer, I would not want my new gun to be evaluated by some self described person with bad eye sight. Moreover the magazines themselves should try to establish some testing protocols and younger shooters to do the testing.
Now after the shooting at the range, the writer says the gun shoots well and then describes his six shots into a 4 inch circle at 24 yards or some similar grouping. Ok, I am thinking, what does this 4 inch group represent, given the inconsistency in testing procedures? Is this 4 inch group a result of the good or bad ammunition, the guns inherent accuracy/inaccuracy or the shooters bad eyesight or all three? If all three factors are involved, what does the 4 inch group really represent?
Lastly, after reading hundreds of articles, I can’t ever recall reading an article where the writer said the gun was a bad design, the finish was bad, and that they would not recommend it. Even on guns that are on the low end of a product line or are from manufactures that make junk guns, no negative reviews, if deserved, are ever given. Especially if the accuracy resembles more of a shot gun pattern, the writer often says “the gun displayed good combat accuracy”. Since most shootings occur at about 3 to 8 feet, this means the gun will hit your 30 inch wide attacker at 5 feet away. (I hope so!) They will not say the gun is a piece of junk that could not hit an 8 inch target at 15 yards if your life depended on it.
Why? Because gun writers and the magazines do not buy the guns they test, they get free test models. Only “Gun Tests” magazine buys their own guns. So the writers have to say only good things about the gun and down play negatives, or the manufacturer “Black Balls” them from future guns. The disservice is you, the consumer. You get faulty reviews.
How do you trust what ever the writer is saying? For me, I do not. In fact, I pretty much let all my subscriptions run out years ago, except for American Rifleman.
Now, I read mostly read articles on historic guns. Not articles trying to SELL me on a gun, sight, laser, or certain bullet.
Repetition to Death is also another gripe of mine. Over the years, not that many truly new gun models have come out. Mostly manufacturs’ will issue an existing gun with a new color, night sights, finish or some other minor feature. The trouble is the gun magazines and writers treat the new gun color as if it’s the best thing since sliced bread and write a four page article. These articles are usually the articles that contain information that is 95% rehash of information already said for years about the particular gun. Usually in these four page articles only two paragraphs is actually new information or interesting.
The gun magazines also tend to repeat articles about the same gun in the same year and year after year. The 1911 is a great example. Start keeping track of the number of times the 1911 model is the subject of articles in gun magazines each and every month. Now the 1911 came out in 1911, and has been written about ever since. Is there really anything out there not known about the 1911? If a new feature on the 1911 is created, does it WARRANT a four page article on a “feature” that could easily be adequately described in a few paragraphs?
If you want to read gun magazines go ahead, just read them with a critical eye. When I read. I read for content. I try and get the following from an article:
1. What is the writers’ reason for writing?
2. What is the writer actually saying?
3. What new information was conveyed?
4. Are the results of any testing process described valid?
5. Did the writer provide any background qualifications or experience?
6. What do I take away from the article?
Handguns are expensive, and unfortunately the magazines are not much help in providing an honest comparison for the beginner. They only say positive things about all guns, the industry and never criticize a brand and or model. “They are all good guns, some are just better then others”? Yeah right.
My recommendation to the beginner. Talk to someone who has been shooting for awhile and has owned and shot a variety of different guns, and has no vested interest recommending one model or brand.
These are only my opinions, but after years of reading the gun articles, I have come to the conclusion that the writers really do not know how to do consistent testing, and the editors have very low standards for accepting articles. I am not perfect either and love shooting, but I would not say every gun is a quality gun or deserves to be bought.
