BoTox is now popular in Sydney society and now it has become a grooming must for many in the city.

All the same I am often amazed when I hear the plethora of half-truths that have been heard around this painless procedure.

Below are a selection of the myths which I encounter everyday in Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a doctor.

Mistaken Belief # 1: I will not have the ability to use my facial muscles normally!

There are around 60 muscles in the human face. The facial muscles usually work in harmony, but over time lines may appear. If surplus BoTox has been injected the muscles of the face can occasionally become over relaxed. The dose used by nearly all physicians will result in you seeming well rested, however you will still appear just as expressive.

So the proper dosage of BoTox in the proper site means one will have a smoothing of the wrinkles without reducing facial expression.

Mistaken Belief # 2: BoTox is a poison!
There is a little truth in this. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the proper pharmaceutical nomenclature. Too large a dose can loosen facial muscles that you do not want relaxed and may cause sickness.

However to help keep things in perspective - a well known pharmacist’s saying is that ‘everything is poisonous - it all depends on the dose’. All medicines in a large enough dosage may make you ill. Even water can be a poison if enough is taken.

Mistaken Belief # 3: BoTox injections will be painful!
At Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor only uses a hypodermic needle finer than a human hair. Several individuals have equated the shots to a mosquito bite. It is certainly not as traumatic as something like a blood test.

Mistaken Belief # 4: I might lose sensation in my face!
Totally untrue. BoTox acts on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, and not on the nerves of sensation. Only the ability to relax muscles is impacted by BoTox injections.

Mistaken Belief # 5. You need to keep having BoTox or else the wrinkles become worse!
Also incorrect.

One BoTox treatment will be effective for around 3 months. Any further injections after the first consultation ordinarily last a few weeks more. The lines will slowly reappear as the muscle returns to normal. However they will definitely not be any more pronounced than when you began.

We recommend you review this prime trusted resource for Sydney Botox clinics information.

As A Matter Of Fact the lines should be be less noticeable than if you had never had BoTox injections - even when you don’t continue the treatment. Principally due to the fact that your facial muscles and skin have had a rest for a few months.
