The Downfall to Getting Staked
There are a lot of perks to the recent trend to getting staked at the online poker table. In the most basic terms, staking means that you limit the overall risk while still enjoying a sizable portion of the rewards. It seems like an ideal system. However, there are dangers and downfalls to staking that lurk just below the surface. If you tread to close to the water’s edge, you may find yourself tangling with the undesirable aspects of staking. The first flaw of staking is that it encourages online poker player to play beyond their means. This goes against all of the tenets of bankroll management that we have learned since we were young. When you play with staked money you are often catapulted into a level of competition that you are not prepared for. If you are used to playing at $1/$2, and then get staked to play at $10/$15, it will be a big shock to the system. You will not play as well simply because you are not used to playing at such high stakes. The whole process of staking will then be for naught. Staking also carries a very emotionally disturbing end result. Because poker online players have to hand over a portion of their winnings they often feel that they did not perform as successfully at the table as they would have wished. It can be very disheartening to walk away with less than you actually earned.
