The Internet is a vast place, full of amazing potential and incredible synergies. The Internet is also a huge place that can become confusing if you don’t navigate it in the right way.

One thing you learn in the beginning of learning your online marketing strategy is that there are two schools of thought.

One school of thought is that you should gather as much information as you can find sift through it and find your niche, your angle, and your own way to go about developing your online Internet marketing strategy.

The second school of thought the one I follow his sift through the information, but look for common denominator that is within all of the information to develop a basic foundation from which everything else can be compared against.

In other words build your foundation so you have something to contrast other people’s information against not just following the path blindly but understanding the path.

When the Internet started out a lot of people had thoughts on where it could go and what kind of marketing potential the Internet had, but nobody dreamed that online marketing would reach the heights that it has today! One of the best things about the Internet and marketing sense is that even the little guy has leverage.

It doesn’t take an extraordinary amount of money or effort to do what the big companies can do on the Internet, in fact everyone is pretty much on equal ground as far as that’s concerned.

So if you ever wanted to start your own company didn’t have the marketing power to do it for the money you may want to consider the Internet as your marketing source.

If you ever see unexpected pop-ups on desktop (when no browser is launched) or suspicious Windows messages, rest assured your PC is heavily infected by spyware. Most probably right now, when you’re reading this, there’s some nasty file inside your Windows system doing its job. However this last feature often comes as an obstacle for the parents.

A close friend of mine walked into his minority SMB office, cup of coffee in hand and was blown away by this question no owner wants to hear coming from his sales manager - ‘Hey boss, is a keylogger, spyware? Of course the cup of coffee hit the floor as my friends blood pressure hit the roof. Like most SMBs or solo entrepreneurs they have no IT guy, so he/she wasn’t there to get fired on the spot. No, I got the brunt of the frustration - being his IT guy on the side and now we get to the global definition of spyware. Data loggers, key loggers are just a few programs which harvest info from your computer. Winclear is the only program created specially to auto remove such spywares. Instead they wrote the program to be used “legitimately” to keep tabs on business employees spouses concerned about affairs and keeping a watchful eye on teenagers’ internet surfing habits. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

The site also recommends using a browser other than Internet Explorer, as IE is generally more vulnerable to attacks than other browsers. It is important to note that hackers have the ability to make an e-card or email look like it came from a reputable site, and even a friend or relative. If the e-card is sent by someone you know, it might be a good idea to contact them and confirm that they indeed sent it before you open it. Additionally, if it’s sent by a “secret admirer,” or other anonymous source, don’t take the chance. Winclear is the only software which is capable of removing keylogger programs. If you visit a pet store online and commonly look at cat products the store will install a cookie that saves your preferences and tracks which pages you look at not only telling the company what their customers are viewing but giving you targeted results on the front page. Winclear has been the industry leader in fighting keyloggers for the last 8 years.

The most powerful headline I ever read and acted upon was a negative headline. It changed my life.

Yet most books on direct mail copywriting will tell you to cast your headlines, overlines and Johnson Boxes always in the positive. But sometimes being negative is positively good for business. Or, to say it another way, negative headlines in your direct mail advertising are not always bad.

The headline that changed my life appeared in a small display ad in the Daily Mirror, a British daily newspaper. Here’s what it said:

“No Pleasure Cruises in the Royal Marines.”

That’s a negative headline, no question. The copywriter wasted no time turning a negative into a positive. In fact, he turned a positive into a negative.

Beneath the headline was a photo of several heavily armed Royal Marines crouching in a rigid raider assault boat, manfully pounding over the waves towards an assuredly nasty landing on some distant enemy beach.

Beneath the photo was this simple body copy:

“Some of the toughest training in the world. That’s what makes Royal Marines Commandos ready for anything. If you think you’ve got the determination and you’re over 16, here’s your chance. Find out more by sending off the coupon.”

“No Pleasure Cruises in the Royal Marines.” When I read that negative headline for the first time, I was slouching at the back of mathematics class, catching up on the comic-strip misadventures of Andy Cap and Hagar the Horrible. The year was 1976. I had just turned 16. My Oxford and Cambridge ‘O’ Level exams — and certain defeat — waited less than a week away. I read the advertisement again. I studied the photograph. I mailed off the coupon that night.

The information package arrived within the week. Nine months later I was PO35440S Junior Marine Sharpe, bayonetting dummies with gusto and throwing up my lunch during nine-mile speed marches. Eighteen months later I was dodging bullets and bombs in Northern Ireland. Five years later I was photographing penguins in Antarctica. Ten years later — and thirteen countries, four promotions, numerous fights and a Falklands War later — I was a civilian again.

That headline would not have worked for me if the copywriter had cast it in a positive way. By promising what I would not get, and by telling me what I should not look forward to, he won me over.

So here’s my advice. Don’t turn all your negatives into positives. Instead, turn your positives into negatives for a change. Don’t be timid.

The good news and bad news about marketing is that price and results are not necessarily connected. You can pay the same price for poor results as you would for great results. The difference is based on what you put into your marketing before you implement.

By planning your marketing well, you can put more quality into it and therefore, get better results out of it.

Here is an easy and effective method to plan your marketing so you can see better results from your marketing without spending more money.

A. Understand your strengths

Ask yourself these questions:

Why do people buy from you?

What do you really do for your customers?

How are you better than your competition?

What special skills or advantages do you have?

The answers to these questions are your competitive advantages. They are what make you stand out from your competition. They may be related to price, location, professional skills, attitude, responsiveness or your own personality.

People buy from you because you do something for them no one else does. Understand this and you’ve taken the first step to better marketing.

B. Identify your customers (your target market)

To promote your business you should focus on people who value what you do. Your strengths (or competitive advantages) will help you focus on who will most value your service or product.

For example, if your location is a strength then your customers will reflect your location. If high quality is a strength then your customers should appreciate quality.

To get an idea of who your target market is, look at your current customers. Or, look at your profit margins to decide which type of customers to focus on. You might have several target markets because you have several products or services and a variety of strengths.

Bottom line: focus on people who will place a high value on what you can do for them. These people will be your most loyal and profitable customers.

C. Create a meaningful message

The key in successful marketing is to deliver the right message to the right people as often as your budget will allow. So, you need a message that tells your target market why they should do business with you.

Your message should reflect your strengths because those are what you do best. And, your message should be in terms that your target market is interested in.

In other words speak in their language and say what they want to hear.

Example:

You’re a Realtor and your strength is that you sell houses fast and your target market is people who want their houses sold fast, then your message might be:

“I sell houses fast!”

And you can give them some details to demonstrate how you sell houses faster than anyone else in town (such as statistics and testimonials).

Another example:

If you are a chiropractor and your strength is that you help get rid of back pain and you help your patients prevent it from coming back, then your target market might be people with chronic back pain who want it to stop, forever.

Your message might be:

“We get rid of back pain now and we prevent it from coming back later.”

Your message comes directly from your strengths and your target market. The three work together naturally and simply.

You can have more than one message. Each marketing focus (based on a product or service, a target market and a strength) should have its own message.

To start, just work on one message. Then as you develop a system that works, add others to your marketing system. Don’t overwhelm yourself right away by trying to do too much.

D. Deliver your message as often as your budget allows.

Now you have to find and purchase the appropriate delivery vehicles (or media) for your marketing messages.

There are three things to remember as you plan how to deliver your message:

1. Set a budget for the project.

2. Get the most exposure possible for that budget.

3. Focus your exposure on your target group.

Unless your budget is unlimited, you need to choose delivery vehicles that focus your message.

For example, if you have a retail store and you know 90% of your customers live within two miles of your store, then you might focus your message delivery on people who live within two miles of your store. This gives you the ability to repeat your message to them multiple times, putting the power of repetition to work for you.

There are many ways to deliver your message: advertising, direct mail, networking, phone calls or personal visits. Some less direct ways might be to teach classes or offer seminars on topics that relate to your product or service. Other ways might be to sponsor events or offer informational sessions about what you do. Or, you might partner with a nonprofit.

Whatever you do, try to achieve a balanced mix of media when delivering your message. This increases awareness of your business and multiplies the impact of your message.

Is your Web site only in English? If it is, you could be missing out on a huge market, because around two-thirds of Web users don’t have English as their mother tongue.

Communicate with hundreds of millions of consumers around the world

For many businesses - right from the smallest upwards - much of the world is a huge untouched market. How huge? Consider that there are more than 200 million Web users who speak French, Italian, German or Spanish.

If you’re a UK-based business, many of those potential customers - individuals or businesses - are governed by the same European Community regulations and, if you need to deliver a product, increasingly unified international postage costs, and vastly simplified customs regulations make it easy to do business with them.

Even if you’re selling from outside the EC, a translated Web site gives you access to one of the world’s richest markets for both business and consumer goods and services. And, of course, a Spanish version of your site targets US Hispanics and much of South America.

But the EC is just one possibility. Looking to the Far East, Japanese and Chinese Web users account for yet another 200 million people, or more, all potential customers for your goods and services. Which markets could use your products or services?

Around the world, content is king

While photographs and design can carry some meaning, the words on your Web site are what really sell. They’re the most powerful weapons in your online marketing campaign. So you need to be sure of having translated content that is at least equal in quality to your English site. You’ll need professional translation services from an agency that’s capable of working with your kind of content.

Professional translation services are within your budget

The good news is that it probably costs less than you think to use high quality translation services. Many leading translation services are leveraging the benefits of Web and other technologies to reduce overheads and reduce the time take to produce highly readable and effective translations, so they’re affordable for even the smallest businesses.

So how do you start? I’d recommend you select one market, and test the water. Get some advice from business groups or government about the rules and regulations you’ll face, then find a translation agency with experience with your kind of business.

Look at their Web site and examples of their work. Is their level of English good? Then find a friend or a contact on the Internet whose first language is the one you’re interested in. If they’re happy with the standard of the translations, you’re ready to go. Select the agency with the highest standards, because their words will be the public’s window in on your company in your new market.

The first step in getting your site noticed is to have a site that is designed in a way that is search engine friendly. That is called SEO (search engine optimized). This is mostly a web designing issue. We will assume that you are starting with an SEO optimized site. But that alone won’t give your site high rankings.

To get the search engines to notice you, you need to understand them. The search engines’ whole purpose is to find quality content– that is what the internet is all about. Information. And the more content (related to your site’s most important keywords) that you have, the more that search engines will like you. They like to see sites that grow with quality content at a steady rate. They also like to see a lot of quality links from other sites on the Internet going to your site.

This is where article marketing comes in. Let’s say you have a website that sells cameras. First you would want to expand your site beyond several pages. You could do that by adding lots of related products. Or you could review products. If you don’t want to do that yourself, look for free articles that review products for you. You could add other related free articles, such as how to use the product, where to display your photos, etc. Maybe start a blog on the topic. Blogs are great for promotion because they are constantly updated with fresh material.

Where do you get all this fresh material? From article directories and article list servers. Because of the rapidly growing need for people to find and submit articles, the number of article directories sites are increasing.

You can take advantage of this fact. You could write an article about you website’s subject (or take the material from what you have already written for your website). For example, how to find a quality camera or how to take great photos. Then you submit this article to article directories. I like to personally add my articles to a new directory every day. By doing this, you now have links all over the Internet leading to your site– links from the article directory, as well as links from everyone who publishes your article for free on their website, ezine or blog.

Article marketing is now considered the method of choice for web marketing. It is the best way to get top placement with the search engines and to drive traffic to your site.

It takes some time and effort to find and/or write and submit articles, but it is free. You can also pay a submission service to send your articles out to more directories than you would have time to do yourself. So, start thinking “content” if you want the search engines to notice you.

Products that come with private label rights let you profit
from other peoples work. They give you the raw product, let
you change it, add to it and claim it as your own!

You can make all the modifications to the content that you
wish. You can include as many links as you want, add
graphics or new content. Even edit the existing content.
And after all these changes you can place Your Name on it
and market it as your own.

To prevent selling the same thing as everyone else
customization is required. Most sites will have it as part
of their terms of service that changes must be made before
you can market the product as yours anyway.

What can you do with PLR products?

The first and most important thing to remember and I can’t
state this enough, is always check the terms of service on
the website where you get the products from. That will tell
you exactly what you can and can’t do with the products.

Another thing you need to take into account is the type of
PLR product you have to work with. Is it code for a website
script? Source code for a program, an ebook or content?

And finally you need to know what you yourself can do. Do
you have the knowledge or time to make the necessary
changes to make the product yours or will you need to hire
someone to do that for you?

If you are dealing with programs or scripts you can make
some changes and add some features and resell them as your
own creation.

You can really do a lot of things though with PLR content.
You can take a PLR ebook and add your favorite affiliate
links to it, add your own content or edit the existing
content and repackage it as your own product to sell or
give away.

You can break up some ebooks and create niche minisites. If
its articles you can create a website as well with those or
combine a few to create your own niche autoresponder series.

Combine a few articles on a similar subject to create your
own ebook then sell it or give it away. You can even use
the content for you newsletters.

There are lots of possibilities to use PLR products. I just
mentioned the most popular uses but I’m sure there are
people using the content in ways that I haven’t even
thought of.

That is the best thing about PLR products is you can do
almost anything with them. They are a great resource to
have as part of your marketing arsenal.

Like spies detectives are a popular choice for heroes in movies but like most of the stories to come out of Hollywood it is not as flashy as in the movies. The stories that Hollywood gives to “work for hire detectives” to solve the murder or any other kind of story is realistically given to police detectives. These professionals solve the cases while non police detectives get the uneventful surveillance jobs.

The jobs of many detectives is to find out if someone is cheating on their spouse, then deliver either the pictures or recordings to prove it to the client. They collect their payment for delivering this information as their job. People hire detectives because they are trained to be invisible.
