Health, Safety Managers Taking on Environment Responsibility too

The research involved a study of about 100 recruitment advertisements for health and safety professionals. The period considered spanned two months this year beginning from April.
From the advertisements which were posted during this period, it was clearly seen that health and safety professionals are being entrusted with the task of ensuring compliance with environment related regulations in businesses. Over 50% of the health and safety professionals ads mentioned environmental responsibilities specifically. The NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) also found that many of these jobs (42%) clearly mentioned the word ‘environment’ in the job titles in these ads.
When the salaries were studied it was found that there are many companies offering above average pay scales for these roles. The average scale is £30K to £65K. Researchers even found one job, which offered a yearly pay of £100,000.
The CEO of NEBOSH, Teresa Budworth, said that a significant change is being seen in the health and safety awareness in companies over the last ten years. This is being reflected in the responsibilities that the manager in charge of these aspects has to bear. Due importance is also being given to environmental issues now and the present trend is witness to this change.
